The Tuesday AFTER Thanksgiving, Nov. 28, 1:00 pm – 3:00pm at DFA Studio.
Jennie Bass and Cheryl Reed will share what they’ve learned about Supplemental Warps. We’ll learn the basics to turn a draft. We’ll try a design technique that applies to many weave structures, wrapping your yarns on cardboard.
Bring:
- your projects to share
- examples of a supplemental warp fabric…photos or the real item.
- some of your stash: at least a few yards each of a thinner yarn for a ground fabric and 3-5 novelty/thicker yarns for supplemental warp. Think of making a scarf as a way to taste this technique.
- Heavy tag board/cardboard and double-sided tape will be provided, but bring your own if this is a technique you’ve wanted to have ready to use at home. Tag board, heavy enough to not bend as you wrap on the yarns, 3-4 inches tall and 8-12 inches long. One is enough for this meeting.
- A pencil/pen/marker to fill in squares on a draft.
We may have a snippet of a video on turning a draft, if the mailman gets it here on time.
This technique can serve as a real stash buster. AND it changes your project from a 2-shuttle weave to a single-shuttle weave.
Hopefully, you have time to gather some yarns in a to-go bag before the Thanksgiving scramble
As always, everyone is welcome.
