Saturday, July 22nd
8:00 am – 2:00 pm
Flat Top Park Gazebo in West Richland

Our theme this year is Gradient Yarns – dyeing gradient yarn or roving with color that moves from one shade to another to more.

Be aware this project does require homework. We will be concentrating on protein fibers such as wool, alpaca and silk but dyes for cellulose fibers such as cotton and linen will be available.dye in the park 2017
At the June 20th By the Book Knitters meeting we will be discussing how to skein your yarn for a specific project.

Take a look at https://thebluebrick.ca/ for inspiration, she has a great tutorial.  I’ll bring a handout on the 22nd.

Think about bringing:
Water (it is July this is not really optional)
Hat (see above)
Chair
Lunch
One disposable cup and one zip-lock bag for each color you are going to dye
A large plastic bag to carry everything home
Plastic Wrap
Don’t forget your fiber and to wear old clothes

If you have a dye pot, hot plate or other dye accessories please bring them.  I only have 2 hot plates and we could use more.

Desert Fiber Arts received dye donations from 2 wonderful members.  There is enough dye for 150 to 200 POUNDS of fiber.  Bring it on.

Bring a clean white or light colored t-shirt. Desert Fiber Arts will provide Sharpie Pens for drawing, then we will spray the designs with rubbing alcohol for glorious shirts.

Homework / Prep work

Your yarn must be put into skeins or balls or however you have decided you want to dye your fiber. At the last By the Book Knitters we saw how to create a sock blank. Not sure how you want to prepare your yarn/fiber?

HINT:  Knit Picks has ‘Bare’ yarn that is ready to dye.
